The emotional challenges of becoming pregnant in one’s mid-40s have been discussed by actor Claire Danes. The star of Netflix’s “The Beast In Me” acknowledged that she experienced “funny shame” upon learning she was expecting a child at the age of 44.
Earlier this week, the 46-year-old actress appeared on the “Smartless” podcast alongside Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. Danes and her husband Hugh Dancy have three children: a 2-year-old daughter whose name the pair has not disclosed, a 7-year-old Rowan, and a 12-year-old Cyrus.
“I was quite old at the time. I was forty-four. “I didn’t think getting pregnant at that age was possible,” Danes said. Danes disclosed that she was originally ashamed to find out she was pregnant, in part because of her age (and the stigma associated with it) and in part because she and Dancy, 50, were not attempting to have additional children.
“I had no idea that this would happen. It was also strange. I felt like a strange embarrassment all of a sudden,” she remarked. “I misbehaved. I had been caught engaging in more fornication than was appropriate. No, it was strange, and it seemed as though I had discovered an edge that I hadn’t really realized—as though I was slightly exceeding the bounds.”
In December 2012, Danes and Dancy welcomed their first child, Cyrus Michael Christopher, and five years later, Rowan. July 2023 saw the birth of their daughter, the most recent member of the family. “It’s a journey. Danes remarked, “I mean, I have a toddler and a teenager at the same time.”
Danes and Dancy first crossed paths in 2006 when playing romantic leads in “Evening.” In 2009, the couple were married. Regarding his career, Danes is presently starring in “The Beast In Me,” which debuted on Netflix on November 13.
