Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD is an ambitious blend of Vedic mythology and futuristic science fiction. Prabhas takes on a stylized yet restrained role, while Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama brings gravitas to every scene he’s in. Deepika Padukone plays a pivotal emotional role in the story’s unraveling.
With stunning VFX and a high production budget, the film is a visual achievement by Indian cinema standards. However, the pacing could have benefited from tighter editing, especially in the middle portions where exposition becomes dense.
Despite its flaws, Kalki 2898 AD sets a new benchmark for genre filmmaking in India and delivers an experience that feels both ancient and futuristic.
