Sonam Bajwa on rejecting Hindi films because of kissing scenes

Sonam Bajwa once expressed her worries regarding Hindi cinema. This was partly owing to the widespread need for on-screen intimacy. She revealed that she has turned down several assignments because she was scared to perform kissing scenes. Her concern was focused on a potential negative reaction from Punjabi listeners.

Sonam previously told Film Companion that her initial concerns have been alleviated. This transformation occurred after she shared her concerns about avoiding on-screen closeness with her parents.

The ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ actor revealed her reservations about intimate sequences, saying, “I said no to a handful of things in Bollywood because I was thinking, Is Punjab going to be okay with it? We have that mentality; families will be watching. I was terrified to do a kissing sequence in a film back then because I wondered how people would react to it. How will the people who have shaped my personality react to it? Will my family realize that this is for a film? “I had all these questions in my head.”

She went on to say, “It happened a few years ago, and I told my mother and father about it.” They said, ‘Yes, if it’s for a film, that’s fine’. And I was in shock. Why didn’t I speak with them first? We make so many assumptions in our heads. I was too shy to address this with my parents, and they said, ‘Koi nahi, je film liya, koi chakkar ni (It’s for a film, no problem)’.”

Sonam acknowledged that she regretted not having this chat sooner. She believed her anxieties were founded on assumptions rather than reality. The actor will next appear in ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ with Harshvardhan Rane. The Milap Zaveri-directed film also stars Shaad Randhawa and Sachin Khedekar. Anshul Rajendra Garg and Dinesh Jain co-produce the next romantic drama.

‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ will compete with director Aditya Sarpotdar’s horror comedy ‘Thamma’. The film, co-produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, also stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Sathyaraj, Faisal Malik, Geeta Aggarwal, and others in key roles.
