Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney’s dress at the 2025 GQ Men of the Year dinner at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California, attracted great notice amid continued criticism of her latest film.
The Euphoria star, 28, returned to black for the 2025 GQ Men of the Year gala at Chateau Marmont on Thursday, sporting a clinging, suede pitch-dark outfit that wrapped her feet and revealed plenty of cleavage. Sydney wore little jewelry, opting for an onyx-colored choker necklace to avoid drawing attention to her plump figure.

For this year’s GQ Men of the Year celebration, she wore her blonde hair in a disheveled, damp style and rimmed her blue eyes with thick, dark eyeliner, in contrast to the natural glamor and well-groomed look she wore to the 2025 Variety’s Power of Women event last month.
If the blond beauty is fortunate, the topic of conversation will go from the failure of her most recent film, Christy, to her most recent red carpet appearance. Christy, a Sydney-led biopic about real-life boxer Christy Martin, only made $1.3 million in North America on its first weekend of release, failing to place in the top 10.
The film had one of the worst box office beginnings ever, finishing the weekend in 11th place domestically, according to NME.
She responded to the criticism directed at Christy on social media by sharing a number of behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram. “If Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded,” she said in the caption of her image, adding that she was “proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin.” I’m proud, then. Why? Because we create art for effect rather than just stats.

Sydney has seen reaction before. She has faced constant criticism ever since the release of her contentious American Eagle jeans commercial, in which some argued she promoted Nazi eugenics ideology. In a recent GQ interview, she seemed unrepentant for her role in the controversial and insulting advertisement, which sparked even more vitriol on the internet.
“The advertisement said it all. Sydney responded, “I believe that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear,” following the GQ interviewer’s attempts to get her to respond to the advertisement in a way that was perhaps more sympathetic.
